Membership Minute: Mary’s Meals
The Rotary Club of Niagara Falls – Sunrise International Committee
has donated $2,000 to Mary’s Meals Canada.

“Mary’s Meals movement sets up school feeding projects in the world’s poorest communities, where hunger and poverty stop children from going to school. By providing one daily meal in a place of learning, children gain an education, which can be their ladder out of poverty. Mary’s Meals Canada currently focuses on supporting feeding projects in Malawi.
Mary’s Meals feeds over 698,455 children in Malawi, which is 20% of the primary school population. Although Mary’s Meals Canada focuses on Malawi, globally Mary's Meals feeds over 923,572 children. Source: http://www.marysmeals.ca/

Think of it this way….. We as a club not only initiated but have supported the Breakfast Club Program in Niagara (Nutrition Niagara) for over 20 years. There is a synergy between Nutrition and Learning. What we did Locally we are now doing Globally.

Large death rate due to HIV/AIDS

Youth literacy has increased, moving from 68% in 2000 to 82% in 2007. This increase is primarily attributed to improved learning materials in schools, better infrastructure and feeding programs that have been implemented throughout the school system.[
